| | I watched Little Manhattan again. And this time, instead of being preoccupied paying attention to the cute (I think that's the best word to describe the movie as a whole) exchange of looks between the two pre-adolescents, I paid attention to the lines (Ah, the beauty of subtitles). And as I watched/read, I kept thinking, "Who knew I could learn so much from a 10 year old boy?" Anyway, here are the last lines of the movie. Profound, but said in a really simple way. And I think it pretty much captured the message of the whole movie.
(Gabe narrating)
"Love is an ugly, terrible business practiced by fools. It'll trample your heart and leave you bleeding on the floor. And what does it really get you in the end? Nothing but a few incredible memories that you can't ever shake.
The truth is... there's gonna be other girls out there. I mean... I hope. But I'm never gonna get another first love. That one's always gonna be her."
Yeah.
(Neil Gaiman just got competition, haha) |
